Holy Smokies!

Today was a first, my introduction to a baby consignment sale. Oh my, oh my. I’ll have to admit, I was a bit intimidated this morning at 8:55am when I pulled into the Pickering Barn parking lot and saw so many women sporting crazy wrap contraptions and slings pulling little babies from their car seats. Maybe there were only a dozen or so but it looked like an entire sea of wheeled strollers.

But there I was, me and my 13 week bad dad self was on a mission...and I was ready to dive into Lord only knows what.

I was so happy to instantly spot Meghan a dear (seven and a half month along) co-worker, as soon as I rounded the corner to the entrance. Meghan is the first and only person I’ve directly shared the news with at work. Since then she has been an absolute gem - hooking me up with fantastic books, websites, info and more info. Today she shinned again.

Note to self: Future baby shopping trips should be made with peeps that know their baby stuff (and prices). I had no clue what half the stuff was (or what was a deal and what wasn’t).

Lucky for me Meghan pointed out the hits and the misses, the today must haves, and things to be on the look out for on Craig’s List.

I didn’t push a shopping cart out like some, but I did score three nice new treasures: A Fisher Price vibrating chair thingy with a mirror and hanging bunny, a Jungle play mat with a cool palm tree and happy looking animals, and a oversized ‘C’ shaped body pillow - all in excellent condition for very reasonable bargain basement prices. After loading them up in the car I had to stop for a second and stare. They looked so foreign and unfamiliar.....I wonder how long that’s going to last.

Fun History....
One of my first dates with Jack was a trip to the Saturday morning farmer’s market at the Pickering Barn. It was such a special place for the both of us it just seemed fitting to hold our wedding ceremony and reception there. How fun that the same place we exchanged our vows almost two years ago is the same place I made our first purchase for our new bundle of joy to come.

Our Wonderful Begining

Sunday, December 2nd 2007

What a day, I felt like the luckiest kid in the world! We feel so blessed that we were able to share our day with friends and loved ones. It truly was one of the happiest days of both our lives and we loved each and every minute of it!

Our planning process was a whirl wind. Who says you can’t plan the perfect day in three months, and have a blast doin’ it?! I realized during our planning how truly lucky I am to have Jack to stand beside. Our happy day was truly a testimony of team work, love, compromise and countless episodes sittin’ side by side watching WE tv wedding shows.

Small and intimate was our goal...no maid of honor, no best man, no big wedding party, just Jack’s adorable nieces as the flower girls. Our original guest count was not to exceed 50, a comfortable 100 graced us with their presence. It was intimate, warm, exciting…it was the best day we’ve shared together.
