The Day After Thanksgiving Tradition

>> Friday, November 26, 2010

With only a few exceptions - our wedding in '07 and our South American cruise last year in '09 we've gone on the hunt for the perfect tree the day after Thanksgiving.

This year we visited an new (to us) tree farm in Maple Valley. It was a cute setup with lots of great trees to choose from, well groomed fields to walk in, SUPER friendly little helpers (a brother and sister team under ten), hot coffee and cookies in the gift shop AND Santa!

I'm so glad we snapped a few photos on Santa's lap before we went on the great tree hunt of '10. I'm not sure we would have gotten the same smiles from our little buckaroo if we would have waited.

We officially have a crawler on our hands! Hudson graduated from the worm to the full blown hand and knee action. (He never did army crawl or roll much, he had is own inch worm method.)

It's been so fun to see that Jack is the first one to witness his big first milestones. Once we both declared it was the real deal we moved him into the hallway and this is what we saw...

1000 Sales

>> Monday, November 8, 2010

I'm in awe. Almost speechless. Somebody pinch me. Have I really? Did I really?

Little Retreats hit 1000 sales this morning. That means I've packaged and shipped at least 700 packages around the World. From local peeps in Maple Valley and the surrounding area to folks across the global as far away as Norway, Israel, Iceland, Austria, and the latest, Brazil. Unreal.

I'm so glad I was on the shop site when it tipped to the even 1K. Shortly after I grabbed this screen shot it the sales continued and the number kept on growin'. Crazy.

Seven Months and Ten Days

>> Sunday, November 7, 2010

The days continue to get away from me and the little boy continues to amaze us both with his new discoveries and advances.

I missed his seven month recap so thought I should dive in now before eight months sneak up on us.

So far Mr. Man....

We watched your two top teeth start to emerge but I was SHOCKED a few days ago to discover that you had two more top chompers coming in up top. Four top and two bottoms and we're only seven months in.

You've mastered sitting up on your own unassisted. And as of......

**And that's as far as I got before I hit the save button. And now it's the 5th of December and November seems like forever ago and I am afraid I can't remember that far back to fill in the blanks. Oh sweet boy, please forgive your your crazy momma.... :)

Feeling so LUCKY and Blessed.

>> Friday, November 5, 2010

I pinch myself each and every weekday I spend at home with our little man. I still feel like I'm living in a dream (maybe that's partly due to the calendar insanely flying by, or the long work days, or all the fun we are having, are possibly because I'm going a little nutso...I'm leaning towards nuttso). Still, I can't believe I'm not driving into the office but walking across the hall to start my work day.

The last five months have been unreal. Never in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined my Etsy store, Little Retreats would have taken off the way it has, allowing me to work from home. Along with that, never in a million years would I have ever dreamed I would be working so hard. Balancing a full time job plus and caring for the little guy during the day has been a challenge. A tough challenge that I'm still trying to master, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. A crazy dream has come true, I'm 'crafting' for a living.

And then today, when the December issue of LUCKY magazine hit the newstands this morning and the orders started immediately coming in as a result I was over the moon pinching myself even harder.

It just keeps getting better and better. Check me out mom! I'm on page 126. :)

The Birthday Fun Continues!

>> Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Last week was filled with all sorts of fun birthday excitement.

A super fun, super exciting, super hoppy surprise visit to Gallagher's U-Brew in Edmonds on Friday afternoon. More details on that fun ditty tomorrow (or next week). And a week long trip down to AZ to check out mom's new pad.

Sweet Jack surprised me with not one, but two amazing birthday gifts! For as long as I can remember I've wanted a vintage typewriter. It seems like an easy enough thing to buy on your own, but for some reason I kept that request in the gift column. On the way to my brew surprise Jack presented me with the details of my expected doorstep delivery packages. One vintage Royal typewriter from the '40s and one Remington 5 from the '30s! I am absolutely in love with both.

Today's delivery, the Remington. Photo courtesy of the iPhone, watch me go! :)

Baby's First Halloween

>> Sunday, October 31, 2010

*Announcement*

Sadly, I've all but given up on trying to post on a regular basis. Each and every day I remind myself to upload the photos off the camera from the day before, jot down the day's milestones, just get a few words down to record this special time. But I'm slipping, slipping big time.

The days..no, strike that. The months are getting away from me. So today I thought I would try a new tact in hopes of regular posts. Scratch the big fancy camera, witty attempts at a clever post, or the 'only document the big and best happenings'. Starting today, I'm going to start using my phone to help me document. I'm going to embrace the grainy iPhone pictures and short text and in fifty years thank myself that I at least grabbed 'something' during this wonderful time.

So I present my first shot at the iPhone posts...
Baby's first Halloween.

Yesterday, Hudson and I were hanging out in the pool at Mom's AZ house. Today, we are shopping in down town Sumner bundled up in sweaters and scarves enjoying a beautiful fall day.

Later in the evening, while Jack greeted all the trick-or-treaters, I made a quick pass around the neighborhood with a few neighbors with my cute little ducky and then headed down the hill to have a little holiday cheer with Colette and her family.

6 Months?!

>> Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Six months? How can that be?!

This month's developments and excitement include...

You are able to sit on your little bottom and play with your toys without support.

Reaching for objects has been replaced by lunging. iPhones, and t.v. remotes are your FAVORITE. Your fascination with these gadgets is crazy.

You have your two bottom teeth and the doctor says your uppers are starting to come in too (although I can't see or feel them).

Your rookie season six month stats:

19 lbs. (75%)
27 3/4" tall (90%)
Woohoo lil' dude!

You've mastered the ga, da, ba, and ma's.

You're starting to show a little mama separation anxiety. Even quick trips between the bonus room and office have you squealing.

Your digging your solids and dive right in to the action. You want hold the spoon and do it yourself, which leads to veggies covering your arms, legs, face and hair. You talk non-stop through each feeding, you tell all sorts of funny stories that make yourself laugh, which then lead to carrot, pear, and pear splatters all over the place.

You've officially moved into your own room at night. It was so nice having you so close by, listening to you sleep, watching your little chest move up and down, knowing your every stir and move, but it was time and now we watch and listen to you stir via the monitor.

You are amazing sweet little one. You continue to light up our days with your cute little laugh, sweet smile and oh so kissable cheeks.

Never a Good Time...

>> Friday, September 24, 2010

Oh this mama is sick. Worried sick and sick, sick. Literally.

Sadly, I came down with a cold Sunday afternoon/evening that about knocked me on my backside Wednesday. And when I got the text from Jack yesterday that said he had come down with it, I just about cried. Poor Jack doesn't do so well with colds and flying.

It's so true, there is never a good time to ever be sick. But this timing has me absolutely worried sick as we are getting ready to host John and Ashley's baby shower tomorrow afternoon/evening and then just a few hours later, we load the car to head to the airport to catch a 6:00am flight to Chicago Sunday morning.

I'm so worried about the little guy catching the crud before our flight and while we're traveling. It just breaks my heart to think of him in any pain during our flight(s). So far he's showing no signs or symptoms. And would you know he's and has been the sweetest, easiest baby EVER this week. I was so looking forward to this trip as a time to rest, catch up on the blog(s), and explore the city with the boys. Maybe laying low and spending time in a hotel room is just what the Lord had in mind for us or maybe, just maybe we've got a super high flying germ fighter on our hands.

Come on sweet lil' boy, you can do it!

Five Months

>> Friday, September 17, 2010

I swear the days are getting shorter and the minute hand on the clock is moving twice as fast as it was a few weeks ago. I've been carrying around a running list of all your new discoveries in my phone little buddy (because I haven't found the time to get them down here). I'm amazed at the ground you cover this month. I think this has been one of my favorites so far. Your personality is coming through more and more, you've become more expressive and vocal, and your sweetness melts my heart more and more everyday.

In your fifth month you've...

- Mastered the art of reaching for things.
- Mom, momma, momo, and moomoom are your favorite sounds. It cracks me up that you appear to be so proud of your new 'words'.
- If you spot it, the pacifier is in hand and to your mouth.
- Your first two bottom teeth appeared, one right after the other.
- Books have become a great source of entertainment and you love to sit and look (and eat) at them. You'll sit for an hour or more on the couch each day 'playing' with your stack.
- You've got the backwards crawl/scoot down. Your up on all fours making the rocking motion, but only manage to head in one direction.
- We had to retire the swing and papasan chair this month. You've learned how to pull yourself up into a sitting position and it was starting to make mama a little too nervous.

Our Wonderful Begining

Sunday, December 2nd 2007

What a day, I felt like the luckiest kid in the world! We feel so blessed that we were able to share our day with friends and loved ones. It truly was one of the happiest days of both our lives and we loved each and every minute of it!

Our planning process was a whirl wind. Who says you can’t plan the perfect day in three months, and have a blast doin’ it?! I realized during our planning how truly lucky I am to have Jack to stand beside. Our happy day was truly a testimony of team work, love, compromise and countless episodes sittin’ side by side watching WE tv wedding shows.

Small and intimate was our goal...no maid of honor, no best man, no big wedding party, just Jack’s adorable nieces as the flower girls. Our original guest count was not to exceed 50, a comfortable 100 graced us with their presence. It was intimate, warm, exciting…it was the best day we’ve shared together.

Come Take a Peek!
