Two Weeks?!

>> Thursday, April 29, 2010

Holy smokes where did the last fourteen days go?! Has it really been two weeks already? I think I'm now beginning to understand what friends and family with children really meant when they said the days will just zip by.

At the end of everyday I shake my head trying to figure out what we did that consumed the entire day, and why the to-do list is still so long. But then I look over at our sweet precious angel and realize I did everything I needed to do, love and get to know our little man a little more.

Milestones and fun happenings this week:

Thursday was a big day, we had our two week old check up and Corbin came over after work to take newborn photos of the little one.

The pediatrician said our little buckaroo was perfect in every way. (Just what a proud first time mama wants to hear!) Our little man has packed on the pounds! He weighed in at a whooping 10lbs. Since birth (and his 10% loss) he's gained almost a half a pound a day! Nice work little buddy.

I came loaded with a whole slew of questions and turns out everything is normal and we have nothing to be worried about. Is the cooing and loud sighs normal? (I'm still a little spooked by our NICU visit.) - Some babies are just 'loud', and Hudson is LOUD. Is his rapid constant breath rate (60+ bpm) out of norm? - A steady rate of 70+ is cause for concern, 60+ is still considered normal.

Corbin's visit and photo shoot was a blast. I think he was able to snag quite a few amazing shots before Hudson ran out of steam. I can't wait to see Corbin's talents capturing our precious little one during this fleeting stage.

I think we are seeing the final days of the umbilical cord. When Hudson came home from the hospital his stump was unusually long. As it's been loosen, it's starting to catch more and more, thus bleeding more and more. While at the doctor, I asked if she could trim it up a bit. Since she has, it's rapidly been shrinking more and more each day.

Forty One Weeks!

Subject: Baby Update

Brooke's due date has come and gone. We are officially one week late. No worries. Everything is good.

We went in for an ultrasound this morning. Fluid levels are good and right where they are supposed to be.

Then Brooke took a baby stress test, and baby passed with flying colors.

But Brooke is finally showing the signs the past couple days that labor might be coming along anytime now. I have a feeling it might be sometime this weekend, but it could be another week.

Garth, it could still happen on your birthday! If it does, we might name him Garfbarf Meyenberg in honor of your grammar school nickname.

I will of course keep you posted, who knows, we might be driving into the hospital tonight!

We will send pics and news once we have it.

We love you all, talk to you soon!

Love,
Yonyack

Looking for a Little Action!

>> Thursday, April 15, 2010

What started as a no plans, ho-hum day, it sure did end on a fun high note.

I'm starting to feel a little antsy but not gun-ho enough to get crazy involved in anything big. By noon I had managed to wash all the inside windows of the house and was about to tackle the outside when Mom popped by.

Mom was so nice to help me finish up the rest of my chores, vacuuming the rest of the upstairs and washing the windows I couldn't reach. I told her about my morning email exchange with the gals at work, just as a funny, and she jumped all over it.

Earlier I shared with the gals that I didn't think today was the day, and the only action I was going to find was at the casino, and if anyone wanted to ditch work and come along was more than welcomed.

Sooo, that's what Mom and I did. We headed to the Muckleshoot Casino in hopes of a little action. Although it didn't stir any labor progression we had an absolute riot. In four hours of Pia Goa, Black Jack and penny slot play we both walked away four dollars up, a comped dinner from the pit boss (an old friend of mom's) and the offer of a empty crap table if I happened to go into labor.

Although we didn't have anything exciting enough for a Muckleshoot Moment commercial spot, it was a great little afternoon escape.

Fourty Weeks and Four Days

>> Tuesday, April 13, 2010

No exciting news to report on this front. Little Buckaroo is snug as a bug in a rug and hasn't made any indications or signs that he's ready to come on out and greet the world just yet.
I haven't hit the miserable and uncomfortable stage yet, so I'm content hanging out around the house fiddling around with fun projects and odds and ends.

Would you believe, with all this time and on my hands I had the the go get 'em gumption to pull out the sewing machine and attempt a real sewing project? (My prior experience has the sewing single straight lines through muslin and paper, and no more.) While lurking in blog land, I stumbled on photo tutorial for DIY 'Baby Legs' that seemed doable. Baby Legs are the big rage these days but come with a hefty $12 and up price tag per pair. Too much for simple leg warmers for this kid, but too cute not to make an attempt at. Sure enough, I was able successful make five pairs for the little guy. I can't wait to give them a go and see them on the little guy!
Along with blog lurking I've also been spending lots of time cruising and shopping Etsy stores. My goodness there are so many cute shops carrying fun baby items. I couldn't resist one shop's goods, and picked up three vintage button up shirts for the little one. I just received them yesterday and gosh are they cute! The pictures don't do them justice, they are adorable. I'm so excited to see what the look like on.On Sunday Jack suggested we get me out of the house and go on a little adventure. It was such a beautiful day and I'm so glad we did. I had never been to Snohomish's cute downtown area so we headed up North. What a cute little town with so many fun shops! We had a blast cruising around the cute shops (Jack bought me a vintage bowling pin), stopping for lunch at yummy sandwich shop, and a slice of fresh baked apple pie and the Snohomish Bakery. It was a perfect afternoon!

Our Big ‘D’ Day….

>> Friday, April 9, 2010

Has arrived, and we’ve got nuttin’. The count down clock says today is the day, but…. Our lil’ buckaroo is hanging out happy as can be where he is and hasn’t shown any signs that he’ll making his grand entrance in the next few remaining hours of April 9th, 2010.

To be completely honest, I’m with him, what’s the big rush? We’re going to have a lifetime together so what’s a few more kicked backed relaxing days before the fun really starts.

This week has been go, go, go. Today is the first day that I’ve been able to hang out at the house and not have a to-do a mile long ahead of me. I really thought this week was going to be laid back, quiet and the days would all move in slow motion (either out of anticipation or boredom). Turns out not so much, they’ve been filled with all sorts of fun, dinner with Laura and Mom, lunches with friends, shopping trips, more last minute shopping trips, what could be our last midwife appointment, craft projects and more.

Yesterday, at our midwife appointment we met Carol for the first time (and a UW Student, Sam). She was very nice and pleasant, but not my favorite pick for the big day. Just for fun we asked if they could check me to see where we were. Turns out I was/am only dilated to one centimeter, so no exciting news to report. I don’t think either one of us were too surprised by the news, especially after all the date confusion discovered when we made the transfer from the doctor to the midwives. They went ahead and scheduled an appointment (complete with an ultrasound) for next Friday, and the following Monday (if we make it that far) to check my fluid levels and perform a stress test. As long as the lil’ guy is healthily , I’m perfectly okay practicing a little patience and letting the anticipation build a little longer.
I’ve got my eye on the 12th, Jack thinks the 22nd…whoa Nelly!

What?! Three more days?!

>> Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Holy smokes the days are flying by! I truly can't believe it. Seeing that number this morning, lit a fire under my bottom to get the last of my baby to-do projects finished up. One of those on the list was the above the crib decor.

I wasn't completely sold on what we had prior. It was a little too busy visually, and although the shelves were securely anchored, not the safest for the lil' buckaroo if the house started rockin'.
Sooo...after weeks and weeks of cruising online for ideas and shopping at the local favs, I decided to go the DIY route. A month or so ago I sent dear Jack with orders in hand to pick up a few yards of fabric at Ikea. Along with my must haves he also picked out two yards of this colorful Fredricka tree pattern.
I’m not sure why I hadn’t tried it on for size before, but after removing the existing shelves and décor we had hung, and duct taping the print above the crib for giggles, I was sold.

My initial thought was to frame the fabric, but after a quick test run, it was a bit too busy took away from the fun whimsy print.

I love the end result! Safe, colorful, fun and cheap (you can never beat cheap). Woohoo, one more to-do crossed off the list.

Thirty Nine Weeks

>> Saturday, April 3, 2010

What a wonderful week.
Last week was a little rough, and I was a bit nervous that my final days (or weeks) wouldn’t end on the high note I would hope for but wouldn’t you know it, things turned around. Sunday, my energy levels were back to norm and I finally felt completely over the tail end of my cold.

Wednesday, we had one of our last Midwife appointments and met Mellissa. She was absolutely wonderful, and I would be absolutely thrilled if she was our gal come the big day.

For the first time I came loaded with a list of questions. Questions I had been keeping in my iPhone, a list I kept at work, and notes I had written down on scratch paper from around the house. I think we were pleasantly surprised to hear all the positive answers and extras she shared, a few included… Not only is Jack welcomed to cut the cord, but also encouraged to help catch the baby. The midwives’ C-section rate is 17% compared to the hospital’s 33%. And they will allow the baby’s heart beat to dip a few times, if all seems normal and safe before calling in a doctor. (A big question, concern of ours after going through Patti’s class.) There wasn’t a single surprise or disappointing news received. I think we both walked out of the appointment a little more excited and eager for the exciting adventure to come in the coming days, or weeks.

And yesterday marked my last day of work until the end of August. Wow! What a wonderful day! The gang from all around the building made it so special.
I arrived in the morning to a big gift bag and brightly wrapped present from Munir (the building’s lead maintenance man)! Sweet Munir picked out the softest, stain and plush blanket, a four pack of super cute receiving blankets, and a five pack of adorable onsies. So so thoughtful.

Idolina followed Munir’s surprise with beautiful potted purple tulips, and not shortly after Sandra came bearing daffodils and Gerber daisies. And top the morning off, Lori brought bagels and scones in for everyone. We followed the morning fun with a lunch at Agave with the HR group and I spent the rest of the afternoon making the rounds, and finishing up small loose ends. Talk about making a kid feel so loved! Everyone’s thoughtfulness was so overwhelming, it truly made saying ‘goodbye’ a little bittersweet.

Our Wonderful Begining

Sunday, December 2nd 2007

What a day, I felt like the luckiest kid in the world! We feel so blessed that we were able to share our day with friends and loved ones. It truly was one of the happiest days of both our lives and we loved each and every minute of it!

Our planning process was a whirl wind. Who says you can’t plan the perfect day in three months, and have a blast doin’ it?! I realized during our planning how truly lucky I am to have Jack to stand beside. Our happy day was truly a testimony of team work, love, compromise and countless episodes sittin’ side by side watching WE tv wedding shows.

Small and intimate was our goal...no maid of honor, no best man, no big wedding party, just Jack’s adorable nieces as the flower girls. Our original guest count was not to exceed 50, a comfortable 100 graced us with their presence. It was intimate, warm, exciting…it was the best day we’ve shared together.
